CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a disaster.  CERT members help others until trained emergency personnel arrive.  CERT members can also provide critical support functions for emergency service personnel during complex incidents.

Firewise is a national program, adopted by Minnesota and Cook County, which addresses the risks of homes to wildfire in the wildland/urban interface (where human development meets the fire-prone forests and fields). Firewise can help you minimize the risks of damage or destruction from a wildfire.

The Cook County Food Shelf exists to supply an emergency 3-day supply of food once a month for families who would otherwise go hungry because of financial crisis.  The source of food is the donations of your neighbors.  Some income guidelines for USDA supplied food.  Minimal paperwork.

At the direction of the sheriff, Cook County Search and Rescue assists in meeting the civil statutory obligations of the office, principally in the areas of S&R/recovery and evacuation; assists Cook County in the execution of its emergency operations plan; assists other emergency response agencies as directed by the sheriff.

GTVFD is a full-service completely volunteer agency that responds to medical emergencies, structure fires, and wildland fires. There are 34 members in the GTVFD: 15 firefighters, 7 EMS technicians, and 9 with both firefighter and EMS qualifications. We maintain three fire halls to cover the almost 200-square-mile service district.

The Hovland Area Volunteer Fire Department will safely provide fire and medical first response service for the Hovland Area Fire District and provide mutual aid to neighboring departments and agencies.  We also provide safety for our volunteers and those who assist us on the roadside scenes through our S.T.O.P program.

The Maple Hill Community Fire Department has fire supression responsibilities for all structures within an area of 146 square miles north of Grand Marais that includes Maple Hill, Devil Track Lake and the Cook County Airport. The department is manned by volunteer firefighters, first responders and administrative personnel.
